The band released two albums before disbanding: What Starts, Ends in 1992 and Room 101 in 1995. Meanwhile,Carl McCoy formed a new project called Nefilimin 1991 after the disbanding of Fields of the Nephilim. Zoon was eventually released in 1996 and featured a distinctly heavier sound than McCoy’s previous works.
Why did Fields of the Nephilim break up?
“I liked the idea of being a culty act. Huge commercial success didn’t interest me at all and I had a fear that things were going that way around the time of Elizium – so I split the band up.” Personal relationships had deteriorated after months of living out of each other’s pockets and McCoy wanted out.
