The distilling and filtering takes time but well worth it. Get varied outcomes with the Air Still but it is all good and some of it (double distilled – 5 times filtered) is just outstanding, as good as anything i ever purchased. You wont see me in the bottle shop anymore. These things are excellent little units.
Can you make whiskey with an Air Still?

Can you double distill in an Air Still?
If you are wanting to double distil the spirit you have collected from your Air Still, we recommend topping up to the 4 L (1.1 US Gal) max line with water. Put the 700 ml (23.7 US fl oz) of alcohol you’ve collected from the first run, back into the boiler and top up to the 4 L (1.1 US Gal) max line with water.
What is an Air Still?
What is it? The Airstill is a table-top still, cooled by air. The still holds a maximum of 4 litres of liquid at a time. It will take approx. 1 hour to get to the correct temperature to distil alcohol, and a further 1 hour to collect 800 ml of spirit.

Are stills illegal in Australia?
Using a still of any capacity to make spirits is illegal in Australia without holding an ‘excise manufacturer licence’ irrespective of whether it is for ‘personal use’ or sale. Unlike spirits, the production of beer, wine or cider for personal use is not illegal, nor do you require a licence.
Does Turbo clear stop fermentation?
Turbo Clear should be used to clear the wash before distillation. If yeast cells are not removed they will break open during boiling, releasing off-flavours and aromas into the distillation process and reducing distillate quality. Usually takes less than 24hrs to completely clear the fermentation.
How long does an air still take?
It will take about 1.5 hours for the water to heat up. Once distillation starts, water will begin to drip slowly into the spirit collector or jug. The still will take about 10 hours to distil the 4 L (1 US Gal).
How much head do you throw away when distilling?
Always discard the foreshots — they make up around 5% or less of the product collected during a run. Throw out the first 30 ml on a 1 gallon run, the first 150 ml on a 5 gallon run, or the first 300 ml on a 10 gallon run. Heads come off of the still directly after the foreshots. Simply put, they taste and smell bad.
How much methanol do you throw out?
The rule of thumb is to discard 1/3 of a pint jar for every 5 gallons of wash being distilled. How much initial product to discard: 1 gallon batch – discard the first 2/3 of a shot glass. 5 gallon batch – discard the first 1/3 of a pint jar.
